Once you're in a kingdom (your own or as a vassal) then you can create an army and keep your clan parties with you at no cost. You can also enter a conversation and ask to inspect her troops. This should let you swap soldiers around, but it's only a fix unless she goes off to keep recruiting.
To view this, press the C key. Once you select the Steward skill you can see at the top of the screen how much this skill is increasing your party size by. At level 10 in Steward, the increase to the party size limit is 2.5. As you increase your skill in Steward this number will rise and eventually you will be able to control many more troops.
The numbers can be seen in the party screen, and are usually: 1 - infantry. 2 - archers. 3 - cavalry. 4 - mtd archers. 0 - everybody. OldGamer - F6 sounds more up your street as it tells your troops to act automatically. If you just want to command your cavalry, then press 3 before issuing commands. #3.

you can only get more parties by increasing clan tier. 4 parties seems to be the max. caravans don't count. Yea im up to 3, 4 including me. At tier 5 atm. Ive been sugested hiring minor clans but aways in debt.
