1. Town Hall and Town Hall Tower. The Town Hall is located on the southeast corner of the Old Town Square and is one of the main attractions in Prague. Its tower offers the best view over the city. Built in 1338, the citizens financed it at that time from the beer tax.
The Old Town Square is a remarkable venue where the history of Bohemian lands has often been written. In the 11th century, there was a market place, which grew gradually in significance until it became the most important in the country. Mikulas (St. Nicholas Day) - from 4pm. Around 4pm on the 5th December, three figures slowly move around the Old Town Square, in and out of the Christmas markets. They are St. Nicholas, an Angel and a Devil. Surrounding them are a throng of small children, gazing in awe, but with some apprehension. Their parents meanwhile look on with masked grins.
ART NOUVEAU. After Baroque, it’s the most widespread visible central Prague architecture. Wenceslas Square in Prague is actually not in Old Town. It’s located in New Town, which is adjacent to the historical area. However, it’s such an important historic site in Prague, and so close to Old Town, we are including it in this list. Named after Saint Wenceslas, this boulevard is considered to be the central point of Prague.
The Prague National Museum at the end of Wenceslas Square is the largest and oldest museum in the Czech Republic. The magnificent main building houses exhibits on the history of the Czech Republic, Bohemia, and Moravia, as well as exhibitions on zoology, mineralogy, and anthropology. The old part of the museum is supplemented by a new building.
